Leadership Opportunities

From 16 years on

Leadership positions in CISV involve three main areas: delegation leaders, camp staff, and Junior Counselors (JC's):

  • Delegation leaders are adults 21 years or older and support delegations of Village, Summer Camp, and Interchange participants while they are travelling and during their programme.

  • Camp Staff consist of groups of 4-6 adults who plan, organize, and prepare the camp prior to its start and help plan and run the activities with leaders and children during the camp.

  • Junior Counselors (JC's) must be 16 or 17 years old. JC's act as role models for Village delegates as well as develop and refine their leadership skills while planning, and implementing program activities.

CISV provides leadership opportunities for adults who must be at least 21 years of age. Leaders facilitate the preparation of the youth delegates and are required to meet many times with the children that they will be traveling with prior to attending a Village, Summer Camp or participating in an Interchange. This is in order to ensure that the group knows one another well and has established suitable communications with one another.

In addition to preparations with the child delegates and their families, CISV provides comprehensive orientation and training for all leaders. Training focuses on preparing leaders for their roles and responsibilities as leaders for youth in an international setting. In addition, training involves detailed orientation to the goals and philosophies of CISV, administrative and legal requirements of adult leaders, cultural sensitivity, and issues of risk management and conflict management.

Leaders are carefully selected from applicants who must demonstrate a strong interest in the goals and philosophies of CISV, a genuine interest in working with youth, and demonstrate the maturity and experience to handle the responsibilities assigned to them.

Some leaders are individuals who have been active in CISV for many years who may have started their involvement as an eleven year old Village delegate. However, previous CISV experience is not a mandatory requirement for being assigned a leadership position. If you would like to find our more about the leadership opportunities in CISV contact us.
